STEM Lab acts as a new hub for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), providing state-of-the-art learning facilities.
The building sits in a prominent gateway location on campus and offers multiple modern laboratory spaces, together with general teaching spaces, and engineering workshops.
Additional facilities include a design studio, 3-D printing suite, microscopy suite, computer aided engineering studio, bio-preparation suite and a STEM Ideas Factory.
The project achieved BREEAM excellent standard.
Low carbon design solutions included the use of engineered natural ventilation systems, variable air volume laboratory / fume cupboard ventilation systems, rainwater harvesting, and roof mounted PV array.
The facility enhances the University’s provision for STEM teaching and further promotes Loughborough University as one of the leading research-led universities in the country.
The project won the Design through Innovation category at the RICS Awards 2018 East Midlands.
